About My Life as a Writer

Every person has a story. Mine is simple. I was born at a very early age in Huntsville, TX. My family was traditional; father, mother, sister, and me. My growing up years were spent in various small town across Texas, from Huntsville, to Vernon, to Mineral Wells, and to Dripping Springs where I graduated from High School. Daddy worked for the telephone company, told stores, sang songs, played the guitar, and taught us that play was just as important as work. Mom worked at home writing books, teaching Bible studies, helping out others on a regular basis, and taught us the value of mentoring. My sister was a bossy older sister, but I loved her when I wasn’t resenting her. Normal American family.

Early in elementary school I discovered the wonder of books and stories. I was a voracious reader and by the time I was in Junior High, I had discovered Ray Bradbury, J. R. R. Tolkien, Louis L’Amour, Isaac Asimov, Harlequin Romances, and Edgar Rice Burroughs. In High School the list expanded to include F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, L. Ron Hubbard (to my mother’s chagrin), and many others. The key thing I discovered through this hodge podge of literature was that I wanted to be “that person” whose name was on the front cover. I wanted to write. So I did.

Post-High School saw three brief college semesters before embarking on wedded bliss and motherhood. Two children and seven years later, bliss turned to disaster and a divorce. Fortunately, another waited in the wings and a second, much more successful marriage occurred in 1988. We’re still together.

Throughout all these life events, I have written stories, essays, poems, blogs, novels, plays, and a plethora of journal entries. Most of what made it to paper will never see the light of day. It was therapy, experimental, emotional release, and necessary. The words that finally make it to a finished product are few, and I hope, are the best I could do at that time. I have four published works to my credit, and more in the works.

When I’m not writing, I enjoy football, college basketball, music, and coffee. Lots of coffee. I am an active member of Toastmasters International. I am also a certified Life Coach, Communication Coach, a professional speaker, and corporate trainer. You can see my professional side at wordcrafterconsultants.com.

Every person has a story. Enjoy the ones I’ve created in my books, but don’t forget to write your own as well. No one will ever tell your story like you can.
